Can I view a family member's (e.g., my child, my spouse, parent) health record?

Yes, with proper consent, a family member or caregiver may be granted access to a patient's MyChart at NYU Langone Health account. Proxy access provides full access to the patient's MyChart at NYU Langone Health account as well as access to the patient's information on a MyChart Bedside table while the patient is admitted to the NYU Langone Health System. Consented proxies will need to have their own MyChart at NYU Langone Health account in order to access the patient's information. Parents or guardians of patients 11 and younger can receive access to their child's MyChart at NYU Langone Health account by completing a consent form during their child's visit to NYU Langone Health System. Proxy access to a child's account will automatically terminate on the child's 12th birthday. Patients 12 and older with an active MyChart at NYU Langone Health account may choose to add a proxy user to their account by completing a consent form during their visit to NYU Langone Health System. Proxy access to patients under 18 years old will automatically terminate on the patient's 18th birthday, at which time the patient may re-consent to provide proxy access to the account.

What if I no longer want my family member or guardian to have access to my account?

Patients aged 12 and older may revoke proxy access to their account at any time by accessing the Family Access Settings page in their MyChart account. Should a patient wish to re-establish proxy access to their account at a later date, a new consent form will need to be filed at their next visit to NYU Langone.

Can I ask questions regarding a family member from my MyChart account?

Unfortunately, no. MyChart at NYU Langone Health offers direct access to your own personal health record. All communications sent from your MyChart at NYU Langone Health account are logged in your record. Therefore, communications about another individual's information would be placed in your health record instead of your family member's, which could potentially jeopardize your medical care.

Can I share a MyChart account with my spouse?

No. Due to the sensitive nature of medical information, you each must establish separate accounts. However proxy access for adults is designed to ease the responsibility of overseeing health care for another adult, such as an elderly parent, spouses, and partners.
